Sanilac County Election Guide

WHAT THIS BALLOT IS

This is a local election ballot for parts of Sanilac County.

These elections are not presidential. They focus mainly on:

  • Schools

  • Local taxes (millages)

  • Community services

In Michigan, many May elections are focused on proposals rather than candidates.

WHAT YOU ARE VOTING ON

School Proposals These may include funding for:

  • School buildings and repairs

  • Classroom programs

  • Daily school operations

These decisions impact class sizes, programs, and your taxes.

Public Services

These proposals fund services such as:

  • Emergency response

  • Roads

  • Libraries

  • Recycling

If approved, funding continues or increases. If rejected, services may be reduced.

Taxes (Millages)A millage is a property tax.

Example:0.2 mills = $0.20 per $1,000 of taxable value

Millage: Property tax rate Renewal: Continue an existing tax Increase: Raise taxes Bond: Borrow money that is repaid through taxes

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU VOTE

YES The proposal passes and funding continues or increases

NO The proposal fails and funding may stop or decrease

IMPORTANT NOTE

Not everyone sees the same ballot. Your ballot depends on your school district, township, and precinct.
